July 17, 2012: Traveling
Note: Many of the pictures in this blog series are taken from the internet, because we had our camera stolen halfway through the trip.
Wow, talk about hectic and stressful. Packing, laundry, planning, last-minute appointments, and last-ditch efforts to NOT come home to a messy house! I call my sister-in-law Angela who's going to be taking care of our cats while we're gone, asking her if she could help me for an hour to help me clean. She isn't available, but, she says, she wants to clean my house while we're gone as a gift to me! What a gift. I can't help but cry a little from relief.
An Ecuador friend, Alfredo, had requested a certain shirt (shipping + taxes = VERY expensive to a remote city in Ecuador.) Though I paid $17 in extra shipping so it would get here on time, it doesn't come. I call FedEx, and learn that they don't ship on holidays (duh, it was the 4th this week) so the shirt is arriving tomorrow - too late. Very disappointed.
I'd also researched and ordered a comfortable travel pillow and back support, knowing how uncomfortable we (especially Joe) get on planes.
I'd been sure they would arrive by today, but they don't. So disappointed I call Joe at work and cry and cry. I also call Heather and share my woes. She's very sweet, but afterward I feel like a baby for letting this bother me so much.
By the time Joe gets home, we're mostly packed, and I'm fried. We settle down to a relaxing evening of Battlefield 3 (Joe) and Minecraft (me). We consider staying up all night so we'll sleep on the plane, but I only make it till midnight.
